Although 2019 is far from over, there’s no denying that movies reached a massive leap this year, and we’re not just talking about the storylines covered in these films. As a matter of fact, the film industry has already amassed millions, if not billions, for this quarter alone.

More and more individuals are watching movies not only for the big names in them, but also to learn more about society. With many movies slated to come out later this year, the future of Hollywood shines brighter than ever.

10. John Wick: Chapter 3 Parabellum

 

Net Gross: $171,015,687

The highly anticipated third installment of the John Wick series finally came out last May 9, 2019. Thanks to the critically acclaimed performance of the sought-after actor Keanu Reeves, it is not surprising that this movie made it to the top 10.

Despite having a reported budget of $76 million, it appears that the film did not scrimp or sacrifice on anything. The heart-pumping action matched with excellent weapon-wielding technology seems to have stepped up big time to mirror the modern advancements we have today.

9. Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw

 

Net Gross: $173,168,280

The Fast & Furious franchise constantly finds itself on the top of the Hollywood list year after year, primarily because of its adrenaline-filled storyline. Although Dominic Torretto and his gang failed to make an appearance this year, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson (Hobbs) and Jason Statham (Shaw) certainly make for great representatives.

With just as many cars, high-speed action, and bigger explosions, let’s just say there’s a reason the franchise has lasted this long. Complete with witty banter and hilarious antics, this movie definitely deserves this spot on the roster.

8. Us

 

Net Gross: $175,005,930

Jordan Peele comes back stronger than ever after enjoying the success of his first film, Get Out. With Us, the film successfully establishes itself as a social commentary on the ‘othering’ deeply rooted in society.

Lupita Nyong’o and the rest of the cast managed to weave a masterful depiction of society through another lens. A closer look will let you in on why Peele and his future films already hold so much promise.

7. IT: Chapter Two

 

Net Gross: $202,561,012

The second film in the series jumps off 27 years after the harrowing events initially occurred, and horror-loving film buffs have been patiently waiting for this installment. Advance tickets sales for this Stephen King creation reached an all-time high, beating those of IT and Us respectively.

Despite off-the-chart sales, IT: Chapter Two garnered mixed reviews from its viewers. While many loved it for staying faithful to Stephen King’s novel, others felt that the jump scares did not quite reach their expectations.

The live-action remake of this beloved Disney animated film really took the terms ‘highest-grossing’ to a whole new world. Staying true to the classic story of the street rat who falls in love with the princess, Aladdin portrays a colorful whirlwind of life, love, and everything else in between

According to an article by Forbes, Aladdin ranks second as one of Disney’s live-action films. With a culturally diverse, inclusive, and hilarious cast such as Will Smith, Mena Massoud, and Naomi Scott, we’re not wondering why. 

5. Spider-Man: Far from Home

The Internet’s obsession with Spiderman and Tom Holland is out of this world, and this translated to the overall amount garnered by the film during its run. Its popularity in the United States and around the world allowed it to cement itself as the highest-grossing film of Sony Pictures.

While the Marvel Cinematic Universe definitely didn’t disappoint with the special effects, many viewers found the plot quite lackluster. However, the movie earned praise for its humor and stunning visual effects and is consistent with the character growth and development most fans have been looking for.

4. Captain Marvel

Starring Brie Larson, Captain Marvel shook the patriarchy to its core with this female lead. Its fame allowed it to reach new heights, successfully crossing the $1 billion mark around the globe.

Larson’s brilliant performance on the big screen allowed viewers of all ages to see why she deserves to be Captain Marvel. At the same time, the story successfully captures the essence of what it means to be a woman in a male-dominated world.

3. Toy Story 4

The Toy Story franchise comes full circle through its fourth installment. Talking about growth and working through the pain of not being needed, the film gracefully tackled all forms of meaninglessness across 4,575 theaters.

The wheel of fortune is definitely in this film’s favor, as it earned the second spot. With a star-studded cast with Beyonce and Childish Gambino at the helm, it comes as no surprise that this “live-action” remake cemented itself in the second spot.

Because of its star-studded cast and its impeccable faithfulness to the animated version, there is no wondering why this big-screen hit claimed the number 1 spot across 51 countries during its opening weekend. Not to mention, the film highlights the musical prowess of its cast, making it a delight to watch for all ages.

Avengers: Endgame became highly anticipated after more than a decade, thereby becoming the world’s highest-grossing film of all time, finally overtaking Avatar. Within 2 weeks of airing on the big screen, the film managed to go beyond a whopping $2 billion worldwide.

The film bore witness to numerous struggles within the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Despite these, it left viewers with a bittersweet ending that managed to seamlessly tie up all loose ends. We simply love it.
